Ray Skwarek is UCOR’s Environment, Safety, Health and Quality Assurance (ESH&QA) Manager at the East Tennessee Technology Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Ray is responsible for all environmental, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, radiological protection, emergency preparedness, safeguards and security, quality assurance, training, and contractor assurance system programs. Ray has led the accomplishment of DOE Integrated Safety Management System verification and Voluntary Protection Program Star status at several DOE sites.
Before joining UCOR, Ray served as Chief of Staff to the President of Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) at the Hanford Site. He provided leadership and integration of all WRPS business/support organizations, as well as WRPS Safety Culture Sustainment activities. Ray was previously Manager of Environmental, Safety, Health and Quality Assurance at WRPS. During Ray’s tenure, the project achieved three AECOM President’s Safety Awards, including achieving more than 4 million hours without a lost or restricted workday injury, an all-time record for any Hanford Tank Farm Operating Contractor.
Ray served as Manager of Hanford’s One System Integrated Project Team that aligned systems and facilities between the Hanford Tank Farms and the Waste Treatment Plant. Ray also served as Director of Safety, Health and Quality Assurance for Washington Closure Hanford with responsibility for all occupational safety, industrial hygiene, contractor assurance, and radiological protection programs for the River Corridor Closure D&D Contract.
Ray previously held management positions in ESH&QA, engineering, and business management with Washington Savannah River Company in Aiken, South Carolina, and with the Department of Defense at the Pentagon. Ray began his career in various engineering and management positions in the commercial nuclear power industry with Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
Ray received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and earned a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He also holds an MBA in Management and Finance from Duquesne University. Ray holds certifications as a PMI Project Management Professional and a BCSP Associate Safety Professional.
